The Detroit Tigers are calling up outfielder Max Clark from Triple-A Toledo. Clark is expected to make his Major League Baseball debut during the team’s upcoming series against the Athletics in Sacramento.
Clark was selected by the Tigers with the third overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft out of high school in Franklin, Indiana. He signed for a $7.7 million bonus. He is the organization’s top prospect and ranks as the No. 13 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline rankings.
In 89 to 90 games at Triple-A this season, Clark has hit .276 with 11 home runs, 42 RBIs, 50 walks and 21 stolen bases. He has shown a combination of hitting ability, speed and defense in the outfield.
Clark becomes the first player selected among the top seven picks of the 2023 draft class to reach the major leagues. He has progressed through the Tigers minor league system since signing, including time at Rookie level, Single-A and High-A before reaching Triple-A.
The Tigers will add Clark to the active roster for the series that begins this weekend. Reports indicate he could be in the lineup as early as Friday. The Athletics are playing home games in Sacramento while their permanent stadium situation remains in transition.
Clark is listed as a center fielder and brings a left handed bat to the Tigers outfield options. The promotion comes as the Tigers continue their regular season schedule.
Clark was born on December 21, 2004. He turned 21 earlier this year. His arrival marks another step in the development of Detroit’s recent high draft selections.
