The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired infielder Luis Arraez from the San Francisco Giants. The trade was completed around the MLB trade deadline.

Arraez comes to Philadelphia along with right handed pitcher Caleb Kilian. In return, the Giants received right handed pitching prospect Ramon Marquez, ranked as the Phillies No. 4 prospect, and player Marty Gair.

Arraez is a 29 year old contact hitter. He signed a one year contract with the Giants before the 2026 season. He has been hitting near the top of the majors in batting average this year, around .325. He is known for putting the ball in play and avoiding strikeouts.

The Phillies are contending for a playoff spot in the National League. Adding Arraez gives them a player who can bat near the top of the order and get on base consistently. He has primarily played second base this season with San Francisco and has improved defensively at the position.

Reports indicate the Phillies may move Bryce Harper back to right field following the addition of Arraez at second base. Arraez provides a different style of hitter compared to some of the power bats already on the Philadelphia roster.

The Giants are in a rebuilding phase and have been sellers at the deadline. Arraez was set to become a free agent after the season, making him available in trade talks.

Arraez has won multiple batting titles earlier in his career. He previously played for other teams including the Minnesota Twins, Miami Marlins, and San Diego Padres before joining the Giants.
