Isla Fisher appeared on KIIS FM’s The Smallzy Show this week to discuss her views on dating. The Australian actress, who finalized her divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen in 2025, listed specific habits that turn her off in potential partners.
Fisher told host and co-star Adam Demos that a man wearing a backpack can end interest right away. “If a bloke shows up in a backpack, wrap it up, Wayne. It’s done,” she said. She added that clicking the backpack straps together makes it worse. Her strongest reaction came from seeing someone in deck shoes who slipped the heel off so the shoe hung loosely. Fisher called the look repulsive.
The comments come as Fisher promotes her new comedy Spa Weekend, which opens in theaters on August 21. In the film she plays Mel, a chaotic friend who joins three others on a spa trip. Her co-stars are Leslie Mann, Anna Faris and Michelle Buteau. Directors Scott Moore and Jon Lucas shot the movie on Australia’s Gold Coast. Fisher has said the production allowed her to work closely with actresses she has long admired and to improvise scenes that highlight female friendships.

Fisher and Cohen married in 2010 and share three children. They separated in 2023. At the Spa Weekend premiere in Las Vegas earlier this month, Fisher told interviewers that the years after the split showed her she is stronger than she realized. She credited her female friendships with helping her recover that strength and said she remains grateful for those relationships. The couple has stated they stay committed to co-parenting.
Fisher also spoke about returning to Queensland for the film. The Perth raised actress, who now lives in the United Kingdom, said local crews and residents treated her as one of their own. She recalled filming Scooby-Doo in the same region nearly 25 years earlier. Castmates noted the warm reception she received.
Reports earlier this year placed Fisher in the company of footballer Larry Cohen on social occasions. She continues promotional appearances for Spa Weekend, including stops on morning television programs where she and her co-stars discussed the film’s focus on friendship and shared experiences from the set.
