The Pirates scored six runs in the eighth and ninth innings to tie the game and force extra innings. The Diamondbacks then scored in the 12th to secure the win.

Gerardo Carrillo pitched the 11th and 12th innings for Arizona. He allowed no hits, struck out three batters and earned his first career major league win.

The Diamondbacks improved to 56-52 with the victory. The Pirates fell to 55-53.

McCann’s hit in the 12th inning proved decisive after the late Pirates rally. The game featured strong starting pitching from Pfaadt followed by a late comeback attempt by Pittsburgh and a response from Arizona in extras.

The Diamondbacks and Pirates continued their series with this extra inning result. Arizona’s bullpen held firm in the final two frames after the lead changed hands multiple times late in regulation.

The win helped the Diamondbacks in the National League wild card standings. Both clubs remain in contention as the season progresses into the final months.
