The San Jose Sharks signed forward Macklin Celebrini to a 5 year contract extension on Wednesday. The deal is worth $94 million with an average annual value of $18.8 million.
The contract makes Celebrini the highest paid player in the NHL. It begins with the 2027-28 season after his current entry level deal ends.
Celebrini was the first overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. In the 2025-26 season he recorded 45 goals and 70 assists for 115 points in 82 games. That total set a new single season points record for the Sharks franchise.
The extension keeps Celebrini with the Sharks through the 2031-32 season. He will become an unrestricted free agent after that term.
Sharks general manager Mike Grier completed the agreement. The team has focused on building around its young core of players that includes Celebrini and Will Smith.
Celebrini finished his teenage years with 178 points and 70 goals. He contributed to 46.2 percent of the Sharks goals this past season.
The new contract carries a full $94 million in guaranteed money. It places Celebrini ahead of other top earners in the league on average annual value.
