The Columbus Blue Jackets and goaltender Jet Greaves have reached a contract settlement. The two sides agreed to a three year deal worth $5 million per season.
Reporter Elliotte Friedman first shared the news. The agreement totals $15 million over the length of the contract. It carries an average annual value of $5 million.
The settlement came after the parties filed numbers for salary arbitration. The Blue Jackets submitted an offer of $2.8 million. Greaves and his representatives filed for $7.5 million. The hearing had been scheduled for Thursday.
By reaching a deal, the team and player avoided the arbitration process. Once a hearing begins, no further settlement is allowed under league rules.
Greaves is 25 years old. He is a restricted free agent. Last season he posted a record of 26 wins, 19 losses and nine overtime losses. His save percentage stood at .908. He ranked among the league leaders in goals saved above expected.
The previous contract for Greaves was a two year deal with an average annual value of $812,500. That agreement covered the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons.
The new contract keeps Greaves with the Blue Jackets for the next three seasons. The team retains the goaltender through the 2028-29 campaign. Greaves remains under team control as a restricted free agent after the deal ends.
Blue Jackets general management and Greaves representatives worked through the large gap in the arbitration filings. The final figure of $5 million sits between the two original numbers.
The agreement provides the Blue Jackets with cost certainty in the goaltending position. Greaves continues as a key part of the team’s roster moving forward.
