The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with forward Patrick Kane on a two year contract. The deal carries an $8 million salary cap hit and runs through the 2027-28 season.
Kane, 37, is returning to the team that selected him first overall in the 2007 NHL Draft. He spent 16 seasons with the Blackhawks before a trade to the New York Rangers in 2023. He later played for the Detroit Red Wings.
In the 2025-26 season with Detroit, Kane recorded 57 points with 16 goals and 41 assists in 67 regular season games. He finished among the team leaders in several categories.
Over his career, Kane has played in 1,369 regular season games. He has scored 508 goals and added 892 assists for 1,400 points with the Blackhawks, Rangers and Red Wings. He is one of a small group of active players with at least 40 points in each of the last 19 seasons.
With the Blackhawks, Kane ranks second in franchise history in assists and points. He ranks third in goals and games played. He helped the team win Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013 and 2015.
Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said the team is proud for Kane to call the United Center home again. The organization noted Kane’s experience and contributions over many seasons.
Kane becomes an unrestricted free agent after the contract ends. The Blackhawks continue to build their roster with a mix of younger players and veterans. The signing was announced on Thursday.
