The New York Rangers added defenseman William Trudeau in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens on Friday. The 23 year old left shot blueliner was sent to New York in exchange for forward Brett Berard.
Trudeau, a native of Varennes, Quebec, was drafted by Montreal in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. He has spent the past four seasons in the American Hockey League with the Laval Rocket, the Canadiens affiliate. In 62 games last season, he recorded 20 points.
Trudeau has yet to make his NHL debut. He signed a one year, two way contract with Montreal last summer. The Rangers are adding depth on the blue line with the young prospect.
The deal continues a busy period of roster moves across the league as teams prepare for the 2026-27 season.
