Mercedes-Benz has returned to federal bankruptcy court seeking permission to repossess a car belonging to Shilo Sanders, son of Colorado football coach Deion Sanders. It is the second time the automaker has pursued this action in just over a year.
The financial services arm of the company filed the request on June 2, claiming Sanders is behind on monthly payments by roughly $9,170, covering missed payments from February through May 2026. The outstanding loan balance sits at $72,155 against an estimated current vehicle value of $75,900. Mercedes-Benz argued in the filing that the car is depreciating while the automatic bankruptcy stay prevents the company from taking any action.
A similar repossession attempt was made in April 2025 and was resolved through payment before the vehicle was taken. That resolution did not hold. The new filing asks the court to lift the automatic stay in Sanders' bankruptcy case, which would allow Mercedes-Benz to move forward with repossession and a potential sale.
Sanders filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in October 2023 after a court ordered him to pay nearly $12 million to a security guard who accused him of assault in a 2015 incident. He completed his college football career as a graduate transfer in 2024, went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, and was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers shortly after. A separate lawsuit from a law firm over unpaid bills was recently dropped.
The bankruptcy court has not yet ruled on the latest repossession request.
