Judge Grants Injunction, Sorsby Eligible for 2026 Season at Texas Tech

A judge in Lubbock County District Court granted a temporary injunction to Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby on Monday, making him eligible to play in the 2026 season.

The ruling allows Sorsby to return but requires him to sit out the first two games against Abilene Christian and at Oregon State. That matches the penalty his legal team had proposed to the NCAA.

Sorsby had been under NCAA investigation related to gambling activity. He completed a 35 day in patient rehab program earlier this year. The NCAA had previously denied his request for reinstatement.

Visiting Judge Ken Curry from Tarrant County issued the decision. The NCAA is expected to appeal the ruling. Sorsby could still consider entering the NFL supplemental draft.
