Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has agreed to a two year contract extension with the team. The deal is worth a base of $44 million and can reach a maximum of $47 million. It includes $39 million in guarantees. The agreement keeps Taylor under contract through the 2028 season.

Taylor was entering the final year of a previous three year extension he signed in 2023. That earlier deal followed a period of tension between the player and the organization. This time the process moved more smoothly. Taylor reported to training camp and took part in practices while talks continued.

Jonathan Taylor has stated that he wants to spend his career with the Colts. He has said he would like to be a Colt for life and has shared that goal with team officials. The new contract moves both sides closer to that outcome.

His recent production supported the agreement. In the 2025 season Taylor led the NFL with 323 carries and 18 rushing touchdowns. He gained 1,585 rushing yards and set career highs with 46 receptions for 378 receiving yards. He has posted at least 1,400 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in each of the past two seasons. After earlier injury concerns, he has shown improved durability.

The extension came two days after Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson signed a new contract that set a higher market rate for the position. Jonathan Taylor responded by saying he needed to speak with his agent. The Colts and Taylor’s representation then reached terms. The average annual value of Taylor’s deal places him among the highest paid running backs in the league.

Taylor’s agent, Malki Kawa of First Round Management, handled the negotiations with the Colts. The structure provides Taylor with security after carrying a heavy workload. For the Colts it retains a productive lead back who remains central to their offense.

The agreement reflects both sides interest in continuity after previous challenges. Jonathan Taylor continues as the primary running back for Indianapolis under the new terms.
