Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson said Saturday that the 2026 season is looking like it will be his final year in the NFL.
Johnson spoke to reporters after returning to training camp practices. He had missed several sessions to handle personal matters. The team supported him during that time away. Johnson said the plan was always for him to return to camp.
“As you get older, things change in your life,” Johnson said. “Priorities, your children get older, parents get older. It just puts things into perspective. I’m looking like it’s probably going to be my last year. Just cause I’m getting to that point, those priorities away from football are starting to merge. Not that I don’t enjoy, I love everything about this game and preparing for it. That’s kinda where I’m at in my career. Just looking forward to this year, playing the best I can and stay healthy. That’s about it.”

Johnson also noted his mother’s health and his father’s age as factors. He added that becoming more aware of his role as a father himself has shifted his focus. He said making the decision public now helps put his mind at ease. Johnson stated he plans to have a really good final year.
The 36 year old is entering his 14th NFL season, all with the Eagles. He is a six time Pro Bowl selection and a two time First Team All-Pro. Johnson has also won two Super Bowls with Philadelphia. He has long been regarded as one of the top right tackles in the league when healthy.
Last season Johnson appeared in 10 games before a foot injury ended his year. He returned to practice in recent days after the brief absence and participated in a limited capacity. Teammates have described him as a steady presence on the offensive line.
Johnson remains under contract with the Eagles. He has expressed excitement about the upcoming season and the team’s new offensive scheme while focusing on staying healthy and performing at a high level.
