The Philadelphia Eagles officially released defensive end Brandon Graham on Tuesday in a procedural move that was widely expected once his contract voided after June 1. It does not necessarily mean the end of his time with the organization.
Graham signed a one-year deal last October, coming out of a short-lived retirement to rejoin the Eagles for the 2025 season. That contract expired this week without a new agreement in place, triggering the release. Multiple reports indicate Graham remains interested in returning for another year, and the team has not ruled out bringing him back.
The decision is complicated by Philadelphia's offseason additions. The Eagles brought in edge rushers Jonathan Greenard and Arnold Ebiketie this spring, joining returning starters Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt. The pass rush group is now deeper and younger, limiting the role Graham would realistically fill if he does return. At 38 years old, he would operate on a reduced snap count and would likely continue shifting between defensive end and defensive tackle as he did throughout 2025.
Graham played in nine games last season, recording 8 tackles and 3 sacks on 113 snaps. Over 16 years in the league, all spent in Philadelphia, he has accumulated 79.5 career sacks and 156 quarterback hits. He was a first-round pick in 2010 and won two Super Bowls with the organization. His strip-sack against New England in Super Bowl LII remains one of the most replayed moments in Eagles history.
Whether a new deal comes together or he walks away for good, Tuesday's release closes one contract and opens a conversation about what comes next for one of the franchise's most enduring figures.
