Mia Bieniemy, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was shot at the couple’s home in Virginia on Sunday night. Their son has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Deputies from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at 7:32 p.m. in the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn. They found Mia Bieniemy, 57, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Officials said she is now in stable condition.
Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, the son of Eric and Mia Bieniemy, was arrested and charged with three felonies. The charges are malicious wounding, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. He is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 31.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing. A spokesperson stated there is not believed to be any threat to the public.
Eric Bieniemy was at the Chiefs’ training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, when the shooting occurred. He left camp to return to Virginia to be with his wife. He missed the team’s practice on Monday. The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement saying the organization is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family. Head coach Andy Reid planned to address the media after practice.
The Bieniemys have two sons. Elijah is the younger son. The family has maintained a private life outside of Eric Bieniemy’s work as an NFL coach.
