Oba Femi Defeats Brock Lesnar in Hell in a Cell at SummerSlam

Oba Femi defeated Brock Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell match on Night 1 of SummerSlam at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The match took place on Saturday as part of the two night WWE event. Femi, known as The Ruler, won the contest by pinfall. He kicked out of a Tombstone Piledriver that Lesnar delivered onto the exposed wooden boards of the ring. Lesnar also hit multiple F5s during the match. Femi finished the bout with his Fall From Grace maneuver.

This marked Femi’s first Hell in a Cell match. It was also the first time Lesnar lost inside the structure. The two competitors had faced each other earlier in the year, including a match at WrestleMania. Femi won the King of the Ring tournament in June.

After the match ended, Lesnar stayed in the ring. He hugged Femi, raised his arm, and spoke to the crowd. Lesnar said the moment represented a change from the past to the future. He referred to Femi as the future of WWE.

The Hell in a Cell match served as a key contest on the card. Elsewhere on Night 1, CM Punk retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes. Randy Orton returned during that match and delivered an RKO. Punk later challenged Femi from the ring. Other results included Nick Aldis making his WWE in ring debut against Gunther and Liv Morgan defending her title.

Femi’s win over Lesnar added to his recent string of results against established competitors. The two wrestlers had built their matchup through prior encounters and storyline segments involving Paul Heyman.

The event drew a large crowd to the stadium in Minnesota, Lesnar’s home state. Femi, who began his major push in recent months, left the arena with the victory in the specialty match.
