Daria Snigur defeated Tereza Valentova 7-6(4), 6-3 in the semifinals of the Livesport Prague Open on Saturday. The victory sends Snigur into her first career WTA Tour final.
Snigur, the No. 8 seed from Ukraine, recovered from a 5-3 deficit in the first set. She forced a tiebreak and won it 7-4. In the second set, she broke Valentova’s serve and closed out the match 6-3.
Valentova, the No. 5 seed and a home player from the Czech Republic, held early leads in the opening set. Service errors allowed Snigur to level the score and take control of the tiebreak. Valentova could not regain momentum in the second set.
The Livesport Prague Open is a hard court WTA event held in Prague. Snigur has advanced through the draw with consistent results this week. She previously defeated opponents in straight sets during earlier rounds.
Snigur will face the winner of the other semifinal in Sunday’s championship match. The final marks the first time the 24 year old has reached this stage on the main WTA Tour.
Valentova’s run ended in the semifinals after she advanced as a seeded player. Snigur’s performance included accurate groundstrokes and steady serving throughout the contest. The match lasted under two hours on the outdoor hard courts.
