Alexandra Eala of the Philippines won the women’s singles title at the 2026 Mubadala DC Open. She defeated top seed Jessica Pegula of the United States 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 in the final.
Eala is the first player from the Philippines to win a WTA Tour singles title. The 21 year old completed the victory on Monday after rain delayed the match from Sunday.
The final began on Sunday with Pegula taking the first set. Play was stopped due to weather when Eala led 2-1 in the second set. When the match resumed on Monday, Eala won the second set and then took the third set 6-0.
Eala entered the tournament ranked No. 28. Her path to the title included wins over Zheng Qinwen, defending champion Leylah Fernandez, second seed Elina Svitolina, and third seed Naomi Osaka. She then beat Pegula in the championship match.
The victory is expected to move Eala to a career high ranking near No. 20 when the next rankings are released. The Mubadala DC Open is a WTA 500 event played on hard courts in Washington, D.C.
Eala has shown strong results against higher ranked players in recent months. Pegula entered the final as the top seed and a former champion at the tournament.
The win marks a significant step in Eala’s professional career on the WTA Tour. She continues to compete as the hard court season progresses toward the US Open.
