The Philadelphia 76ers waived wing player Dalen Terry on Sunday. The move came as the team worked to create roster space and salary cap room.
Team officials said the decision allowed the 76ers to stay under the first luxury tax apron. This hard cap limit required adjustments after recent roster changes. The waiver helped clear a path for new signings, including forward LeBron James and guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
Terry joined the 76ers late in the previous season. He appeared in 14 games after the team signed him to a standard contract. Before that, he had played on a two way deal. Across his time with Philadelphia and earlier with the Chicago Bulls, he averaged 3.7 points per game in limited minutes.
The 76ers had exercised a team option on Terry’s contract earlier in the offseason. The deal carried a non guaranteed salary for the upcoming year. Waiving him removed that obligation from the books.
President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey and the front office have made several roster adjustments this summer. The team signed other veterans and added pieces to reshape the lineup. The waiver of Terry was one of the steps needed to complete the new contracts for LeBron James and Caldwell-Pope.
Terry was originally selected 18th overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 2022 NBA Draft. He spent multiple seasons with Chicago before being traded and later becoming available as a free agent. His time in Philadelphia was brief and focused on providing depth on the wing.
The 76ers now have an open roster spot and additional flexibility under the salary cap rules. Other players on non guaranteed or partial contracts remain options for further adjustments if needed. The team continues to build its roster for the 2026-27 season.
