Giannis Antetokounmpo said he hopes to return to the Milwaukee Bucks one day after his time with the Miami Heat ends.
The two time MVP made the comments during an appearance on a Greek-language podcast this week. Antetokounmpo was traded from the Bucks to the Heat in June after 13 seasons in Milwaukee.
He told the podcast that he is still adjusting to life in Miami. Antetokounmpo said he felt stuck in his comfort zone with the Bucks and needed a new challenge. He added that he is determined to fit in with his new team and chase a championship.
On the subject of Milwaukee, Antetokounmpo said the fan reaction to his trade warmed him. He reaffirmed his love for the city and the organization.
“I hope when this chapter with Miami ends – which I don’t know when it will end, but I’m sure it will end one day, I don’t know how many years I’ll be there – I hope to go back to Milwaukee, if they’ll have me,” Antetokounmpo said.
He compared the idea to Kevin Garnett, who returned to the Minnesota Timberwolves later in his career after playing elsewhere.
Antetokounmpo spent his entire NBA career with the Bucks before the trade. He helped the team win the 2021 NBA championship and became the face of the franchise. The Bucks received a package of players and draft picks from the Heat in exchange for Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis.
The comments come as Antetokounmpo begins his first season with Miami. He has already appeared in photos wearing a Heat jersey. Fans in Milwaukee have mixed reactions to the possibility of a future return.
Antetokounmpo remains under contract with the Heat for the upcoming season.
