Wang Cong Defeats Tracy Cortez by Unanimous Decision at UFC 329

Wang Cong defeated Tracy Cortez by unanimous decision at UFC 329 on July 11 in Las Vegas. All three judges scored the women’s flyweight bout 29-27 for Cong.

The 34 year old Chinese fighter improved to 5-1 in the UFC with her fourth straight win. She controlled the action over three rounds with consistent striking. Cong targeted Cortez’s lead leg early and mixed in clean punches throughout the fight. She outworked her opponent in most exchanges.

In the second round, Cong received a one-point deduction for landing an illegal knee while Cortez was on the ground. Despite the penalty, she still earned the victory on all scorecards.

Cong trains with Team Alpha Male. Her performance marked the biggest win of her UFC career so far. After the fight, she stated she is looking toward a matchup with flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko. The win is expected to move Cong into the top 10 of the division.

Tracy Cortez suffered her second loss in a row. She struggled to find consistent offense against Cong’s pressure and leg kicks. Cortez dropped in the rankings following the result.

The fight took place on the prelims card at UFC 329. Cong’s win streak now ties her for the second-longest active streak among women’s flyweight fighters. She has shown steady improvement since joining the UFC roster.

Her next steps will likely involve higher-ranked opponents as she continues to build her position in the division.
