The Sanatorio Centro in Rosario confirmed the death. The family of Lionel Messi also confirmed the news to media outlets. Jorge Messi spent his final months receiving treatment while moving between the medical center and his home. He was accompanied by his wife, Celia Cuccittini, and their children Rodrigo, Matías, and María Sol.
Lionel Messi was with his father after the 2026 World Cup before returning to play for Inter Miami. Jorge Messi had been under medical care during the tournament. The family previously issued a statement noting that he was receiving treatment and recovering within the limits of his condition.

Jorge Messi played a central role in his son’s career. He supported Lionel from his early days at Newell’s Old Boys in Rosario. When Lionel moved to Barcelona as a boy for treatment and to join the club’s youth system, Jorge accompanied him. He later managed many of Lionel’s professional and business matters as his representative.
Newell’s Old Boys released a statement expressing sorrow over the death. The club described Jorge Messi as a recognized supporter and the person who backed Lionel’s career with vision and care alongside Celia Cuccittini.
