The Portland Trail Blazers picked up Ja Morant in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies. Portland sent forward Jerami Grant and forward Kris Murray to Memphis in exchange for the two time All Star guard. The Grizzlies also threw in about a million dollars in cash as part of the deal. No draft picks were involved.
Morant spent his early career in Memphis but ran into some off-court problems that hurt his time there. The move gives him a new start with the Blazers, where he could play alongside Damian Lillard and other backcourt pieces already on the roster.
For the Grizzlies, the trade adds Grant’s scoring ability and Murray’s length and energy. It fits with their ongoing effort to reshape the team after some bigger roster changes earlier.
Reports say Morant has already talked with the Portland side and sounds positive about the fresh opportunity. The deal still needs final league approval and physicals before it becomes official.
