Portland Fire Defeat Indiana Fever 100-84
The Portland Fire beat the Indiana Fever 100-84 on Saturday night at Moda Center.
Megan Gustafson led Portland with 22 points on 8-for-8 shooting. Carla Leite added 18 points and a career-high 12 assists. Emily Engstler had 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Sarah Ashlee Barker scored 15 points.
Caitlin Clark finished with six points on 1-of-7 shooting in 21 minutes for Indiana. She added six assists and two rebounds. The Fever struggled with rebounding and allowed Portland to pull away in the third quarter.Portland led 50-37 at halftime and pushed the advantage to as many as 22 points in the second half. The Fire improved to 6-4. Indiana fell to 4-4.
Coach Stephanie White pulled some starters early in the game, including Clark, as part of minutes management. Aliyah Boston played under a restriction. The Fever are now on a winless West Coast trip.
The teams split their season series after Indiana won the first meeting 90-73 earlier this month. Portland's home crowd filled much of the Moda Center for the matchup.
