Liberty Beat Sky 96-95 in Commissioner's Cup Game

The New York Liberty beat the Chicago Sky 96-95 on Wednesday night at Wintrust Arena in a WNBA Commissioner's Cup game.

New York trailed by 15 in the first half. The Liberty outscored Chicago 47-36 in the middle two quarters and took the lead in the third. The Sky cut it close in the fourth but could not finish the comeback.

Jonquel Jones led New York with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting. She added 8 rebounds. Breanna Stewart scored 17 points with 6 rebounds, 2 steals and a block. Satou Sabally had 17 points on 8-of-11 from the field.

The Liberty bench outscored Chicago's reserves 38-14. Pauline Astier had 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists off the bench. Rebekah Gardner added 10 points.

Sydney Taylor led the Sky with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Gabriela Jaquez scored 22 on 7-of-11. Skylar Diggins had 19 points and 8 assists.

Chicago shot 52.2% from three but committed 11 turnovers. New York shot 91.3% from the free throw line, going 21-of-23.

The win extended New York's streak to eight straight. The Liberty moved to 11-4, first in the Eastern Conference. Chicago fell to 4-10.

New York had already clinched a spot in the Commissioner's Cup final before tipoff. The Liberty host Washington on Friday. The Sky and Liberty meet three more times this season.
