A'ja Wilson put together one of the more complete individual performances of the young WNBA season Tuesday night, finishing with 25 points, 15 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 3 steals as the Las Vegas Aces beat the Los Angeles Sparks 79–69.
Wilson controlled the game on both ends. She scored in a variety of ways — mid-range, at the rim, and from three — while anchoring a Las Vegas defense that held the Sparks to just 30.8% shooting from the field. She also ran the fast break effectively, converting all 4 of her break opportunities into points. It was a double-double in the truest sense of the word, with her impact extending well beyond the box score.
Chelsea Gray ran the offense efficiently around her, posting 12 points and 11 assists against just 1 turnover. Jackie Young chipped in 16 points and 9 assists of her own, giving Las Vegas two playmakers who kept the ball moving and the Sparks scrambling on defense. The Aces scored 15 fast-break points on the night and consistently found good looks when they pushed the pace.
For Los Angeles, Rae Burrell was the standout with 22 points on efficient shooting, but she got little support. Nneka Ogwumike posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds yet shot just 30% from the field. Cameron Brink had 9 points and 8 rebounds but picked up a technical foul in a physical contest that saw three Las Vegas players also get technicals.
The Aces have now won two straight and sit in a good position in the Western Conference standings. Las Vegas hosts Golden State on Saturday.
