Alexander Zverev defeated Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(8) in the Wimbledon 2026 round of 16 on Centre Court. The second-seeded German advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time at the tournament. He will face sixth seed Taylor Fritz next.
Zverev took control early. He won the first set 6-4 by breaking Lehecka and holding his own serve well. In the second set, Zverev broke at a key moment and closed it out 7-5. Lehecka fought back in the third set. He broke Zverev and won it 6-3, including a strong 135 mph ace to finish the set.
The fourth set went to a tiebreak. Zverev stayed steady and won it 8-6 to take the match. Both players served strongly throughout. Zverev hit 12 aces and won 82 percent of his first-serve points. Lehecka hit 14 aces and won 76 percent of his first serve points. Zverev had 39 winners and 40 unforced errors. Lehecka had 47 winners and 25 unforced errors.
Zverev converted two of six break points. Lehecka converted one of eight. The match showed Zverev’s experience in big moments after Lehecka made it competitive in the later sets.
This win connects Zverev’s strong season on grass with his push for a deep run at Wimbledon. Lehecka played well but could not overcome Zverev’s serving and consistency in the deciding tiebreak. The result keeps Zverev on track in the draw. Fritz will be a tough test in the quarterfinals. Both players showed high-level tennis on the fast grass surface.
