Taylor Fritz advanced to the second round at Wimbledon with a straight-sets win over Dusan Lajovic. The American player took the match 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 on Tuesday.
Fritz recorded 14 aces and held serve throughout most of the contest. He broke Lajovic’s serve at key moments to pull ahead in each set. The match lasted under two hours.
Lajovic, a Serbian veteran, competed well at times but could not find enough consistency on grass. Fritz entered the tournament in solid form after reaching finals on grass courts earlier in the season.
The sixth seed originally drew British player Jack Draper in the first round, but Draper withdrew due to injury. That change turned the opener into a more straightforward test for Fritz.
Fritz now moves on to the second round. His next opponent will come from the winners of other first round matches in his section of the draw. The win gives him a solid start on the grass major where he has reached deep stages in recent years.
