Tatjana Maria defeated Tereza Valentova 6-3, 7-5 on Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the Lexus Eastbourne Open.
The German player has now reached her fifth tour-level semifinal on grass courts. She controlled much of the match and closed it out in straight sets against the younger opponent.
Maria will next face Jelena Ostapenko in the semifinal. The Eastbourne event serves as an important grass court tune up ahead of Wimbledon. Maria has built a strong record on the surface in recent seasons.
