Elena Svitolina pulled out of her quarterfinal match at the Bad Homburg Open on Wednesday because of a right hip injury.
The Ukrainian player had won a tough match the night before. She said the victory took more out of her body than expected. Svitolina needed a few more days to recover and wished the remaining players well in the tournament.
Xinyu Wang received a walkover and advanced to the semifinals. The grass court event serves as one of the final tune ups ahead of Wimbledon.
Svitolina had been competing at the WTA 500 event as she prepares for the upcoming Grand Slam. No further timeline on her return was given.
