Diana Shnaider defeated world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros on Wednesday. The 22-year-old Russian won 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 to reach her first Grand Slam semifinal.
Shnaider dropped the first set but fought back after trailing by a break in the second. She then took over in the third set, winning it 6-0 after taking the last 10 games in a row.
Sabalenka had looked strong early but could not keep up once Shnaider found her rhythm on the clay. Shnaider’s run continues as she advances in the tournament.
