Serena Williams Teams Up With Karolina Muchova in Berlin Doubles

Serena Williams is back on the court for another chapter in her comeback. The 44 year old legend will partner with Karolina Muchova in the doubles draw at the Berlin Tennis Open.

Williams and Muchova, the world No. 10 from the Czech Republic, face Giuliana Olmos and Erin Routliffe in the first round. Their match is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the Steffi Graf Stadion.

This comes after Williams returned to competition last week at Queen’s Club in London. She and Victoria Mboko won their opening doubles match but withdrew before the quarterfinals when Mboko injured her left knee. Muchova stepped in as the new partner for Berlin.

Muchova said she is excited about the opportunity. She noted it is not every day that a player of Williams stature asks to team up. The pair could meet strong teams like Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff later in the draw if they advance.

Williams has spoken about feeling restless and ready to play again after focusing on family. The Berlin event on grass gives her more match play ahead of a possible Wimbledon appearance. Muchova, fresh off an easy singles win over Zhang Shuai on Tuesday, will play the doubles match later in the day.

The pairing brings together Williams power and experience with Muchova’s skill and touch on the doubles court.
