Jasmine Paolini defeated American qualifier Robin Montgomery 0-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the first round at Wimbledon on Tuesday.
Paolini, the 13th seed and 2024 Wimbledon finalist, lost the opening set 6-0 in 31 minutes. She won the second set 6-4 to even the match. In the third set she trailed 2-4 but broke back and held on to close out the win after two hours and 22 minutes. She saved a match point along the way.
The victory gave Paolini her 13th win of the 2026 season. Montgomery, who won a WTA title last week, had strong early momentum on grass but could not hold off the comeback.
Paolini moves on to the second round. She will face the winner of Victoria Golubic versus Iryna Shymanovich.
