Emma Navarro defeated No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 in the second round of the Bad Homburg Open on Wednesday.
Navarro took the first set after a close battle and then won the deciding set to advance to the quarterfinals. Swiatek won the second set but could not close out the match.

The American player has now beaten Swiatek in consecutive meetings, following a win in Beijing last year. Swiatek, the defending Wimbledon champion, played her first grass court match of the season and will look to prepare for the upcoming Grand Slam.
Navarro will face Elena Gabriela Ruse in the next round. The result gives Navarro momentum heading into the grass court portion of the schedule.
