Naomi Osaka advanced to the quarterfinals of the Bad Homburg Open with a straight sets win over Elise Mertens.
The sixth seeded Osaka defeated Mertens 6-3, 6-3 in the second round on Tuesday. She had earlier beaten Magdalena Frech 6-4, 6-1 in the first round. That opening match was delayed by rain but finished in straight sets on Monday.

Osaka controlled both matches with strong serving and consistent baseline play. She broke serve multiple times and limited her errors on the grass surface. This marks her biggest quarterfinal appearance on grass in her career so far.
She will next face either Mirra Andreeva or Ekaterina Alexandrova. Naomi Osaka continues her preparation for Wimbledon after a solid clay court season that included a run to the French Open fourth round. The Bad Homburg Open is a WTA 500 event on grass courts in Germany.
