Iva Jovic defeated Alex Eala 6-2, 6-2 in the second round of the HSBC Championships on Wednesday.
The 18 year old American, seeded sixth at the grass court WTA 500 event at Queen’s Club, reached the quarterfinals with the straight sets win. Jovic, ranked No. 19, had beaten Antonia Ruzic in the first round earlier this week.

Eala, the No. 33 ranked Filipino player and a close friend of Jovic’s on tour, had won her opening match against Zhang Shuai. The two have faced each other several times before, with Jovic holding the edge.
Jovic will play the winner of Amanda Anisimova or Laura Siegemund in the quarterfinals. The tournament serves as one of the final grass court tune ups before Wimbledon.
