Juan Carlos Ferrero released a statement Monday addressing reports from a recent Italian interview that he said Carlos Alcaraz would not have bought a luxury yacht if he had remained his coach.
In the statement, Ferrero said the quotes were taken out of context. He explained that he did not mention the education of his own children and believes buying a yacht is neither good nor bad. He responded to a light hearted question in the interview by noting he often told Alcaraz “no” to many things, similar to how the player’s family tries to keep him grounded.
Ferrero added that he is growing tired of how some media outlets handle his words and said he will not give interviews for the next several months. The former world No. 1 coached Alcaraz for seven years until their split late last year. He has stayed mostly quiet about their relationship since then.
