Alejandro Davidovich Fokina defeated Adam Walton 6-4, 7-5 in the second round of the Mallorca Championships on Wednesday.
The Spaniard, seeded No. 2, controlled most of the match on the grass courts. He broke Walton’s serve at key moments and held steady to close out the straight sets win in just over an hour and a half.
Davidovich Fokina recorded his first victory of the week at the grass court event, which serves as a tune up for Wimbledon. The win moves him into the quarterfinals.
Walton, the Australian qualifier, pushed in the second set but could not convert his chances against the higher ranked player.
