Coco Gauff won her first round match at Wimbledon on Monday. The seventh seeded American defeated Tamara Korpatsch of Germany 6-2, 6-1 in 54 minutes on Court 2.
Gauff hit 19 winners and held serve throughout the match. The victory marked her first grass court win in two years and her first Wimbledon singles win since 2024.
Gauff, who reached the final at the 2024 U.S. Open and has strong hard court results, showed improved form on the surface. Korpatsch, ranked around 78th, could not keep up with Gauff’s pace and serve.
In the second round, Gauff faces Argentina’s Solana Sierra. Sierra earned her spot with a win in the first round. Gauff holds a strong career edge over lower ranked players and is expected to advance if she maintains her level from the opener. The match is part of Gauff’s push in the grass court Grand Slam.
