Gaethje Handed Six Month Medical Suspension After UFC Freedom 250 Win

Justin Gaethje picked up a 180 day medical suspension following his lightweight title win over Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250 on June 14.

The event took place on the South Lawn of the White House. Gaethje stopped the former champion via corner retirement in the fourth round after a back and forth fight that left both men with visible damage.

Gaethje now holds the undisputed UFC lightweight championship. The suspension requires clearance on MRI scans for his right wrist and left knee. He also faces a 45 day mandatory rest period before any return to training or competition. The full term can be shortened if the scans come back clean.

Medical suspensions are standard after UFC events. They give fighters time to recover from injuries sustained in the cage and protect long term health. Topuria received a similar 180 day suspension for facial injuries, including fractured orbitals, and needs clearance from a specialist.

Gaethje, now 28-5, earned the title in what many saw as a major upset. His next fight will depend on how quickly he heals and clears the required medical checks.
