A single Powerball ticket sold in Illinois matched all six numbers in the Wednesday, August 12, 2026, drawing and claimed the estimated $1.04 billion jackpot. The winning numbers were 4, 26, 66, 67, 69 and the Powerball 9. The Power Play multiplier for the drawing was 2.
The ticket was purchased at a Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh gas station on North 36th Street in Quincy, Illinois. Officials from the Multi State Lottery Association confirmed it is the only ticket that matched all six numbers for the grand prize. The jackpot ranks as the eighth largest in Powerball history and stands as the largest lottery prize awarded in the United States so far in 2026.
The winner has not been publicly identified. The prize can be taken as a lump-sum cash payment of $450.5 million before taxes or as an annuity of $1.04 billion paid in 30 graduated installments over 29 years, with payments increasing by 5 percent each year. Both options are subject to federal and state taxes. Illinois applies a flat 4.95 percent tax on lottery winnings.

Stephen Durrell, chair of the Powerball Product Group and executive director of the Kansas Lottery, issued a statement congratulating the Illinois winner. The jackpot had climbed after 44 consecutive drawings without a top prize winner. The previous Powerball jackpot was claimed on May 2. Strong ticket sales ahead of the August 12 drawing raised the estimated prize from $975 million.
Several other tickets won secondary prizes. One ticket in Massachusetts matched five white balls plus the Power Play for $2 million. Tickets in Arizona, California, Florida and North Carolina each matched the five white balls for $1 million prizes. The Powerball jackpot now resets to $20 million for the next drawing on Saturday.
This marks the third time a Powerball jackpot has been won by a ticket sold in Illinois. The winner must come forward to claim the prize according to state lottery rules. The Illinois Lottery and Multi State Lottery Association continue to process the claim and verify the ticket.
