The United States men’s national team beat Australia 2-0 on Friday night at Lumen Field in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Cameron Burgess scored an own goal in the 11th minute to give the USMNT the lead. Alex Freeman added a goal in the 43rd minute to make it 2-0. Both goals came in the first half.

The US controlled the match with 62-63% possession and outshot Australia 10-5. They advanced to the knockout stage with two wins from two games in Group D. Coach Mauricio Pochettino’s side has now won back to back World Cup matches for the first time since 1930.
Australia struggled to create chances and sits with zero points so far. The Socceroos need results in their final group game to have a chance at advancing.
