PSG Defeats Arsenal in Champions League Final on Penalties
Paris Saint-Germain beat Arsenal 4-3 on penalties after the teams played to a 1-1 draw in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday at the Puskás Aréna.
Arsenal took the lead early. Kai Havertz scored in the sixth minute to give the English side a 1-0 advantage. PSG tied the match in the 65th minute when Ousmane Dembélé converted a penalty.Neither team scored during extra time. The match went to a penalty shootout, where PSG came out on top. Gabriel Magalhães missed Arsenal’s decisive kick.
PSG, the defending champions, won their second straight Champions League title. Arsenal, who reached the final looking for their first title in the competition since 2006, fell short.
The game was played in front of a full crowd at the neutral venue in Hungary. Both sides used similar 4-3-3 formations. Arsenal started with David Raya in goal, while PSG used their regular goalkeeper.
The result ends Arsenal’s season on a tough note after they won the Premier League. PSG adds another major European trophy to their recent success.
