Chelsea have reached an agreement with Sunderland to sign midfielder Granit Xhaka for around £17 million.
Xabi Alonso, the new Chelsea manager, requested the move. Xhaka played under Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen and wants to reunite with him in the Premier League. The Swiss international has agreed personal terms with Chelsea.
Xhaka spent seven seasons with Arsenal before moving to Sunderland. The 33 year old brings Premier League experience and leadership to Chelsea’s midfield as they build under Alonso.
The transfer is expected to be finalized soon. Xhaka would add depth and know, how to the squad for the upcoming season.
