Brazil has confirmed that defender Wesley will miss the 2026 World Cup after suffering a thigh injury.
The Brazilian Football Confederation made the announcement Monday. Wesley picked up the injury during a recent friendly against Egypt and could not recover in time.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti called up Atalanta midfielder Ederson as the replacement. The 26 year old Ederson has an agreement in place to join Manchester United for €45 million, with the transfer expected to be finalized in early July after his medical.
Ederson now joins the Brazil squad as a late addition ahead of the tournament.
