“We’re American, we don’t take shit,” Berhalter said, repeating the coach’s words. “That’s something he really drilled into us.”
The midfielder spoke to reporters after a recent friendly against Australia. Pochettino, who is Argentine, has pushed the idea that this kind of toughness matches what the team represents. Berhalter noted the group likes physical matches because they fit the team’s style and identity.
The comments came after a game in which the US allowed opponents to control parts of the match. Pochettino used the moment to remind players of their approach.
