San Francisco Giants reliever Dylan Smith earned his first career major league save Monday, closing out a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs in 10 innings.
Smith pitched a clean 10th inning on Sunday Night Baseball. He faced three batters, retired them in order and stranded Pete Crow-Armstrong at third base. He threw 11 pitches, seven for strikes, with no hits, no walks and no strikeouts.
The Giants improved to 2-1 in the series. Smith, a former Detroit Tigers reliever, has been with San Francisco since joining the organization earlier this season. The save was his first in the majors.
