Kansas City held off Minnesota 8-6 on Thursday night at Target Field, a game that featured a rain delay, defensive miscues, and a ninth-inning rally by the Royals.
Seth Lugo started for the Royals and went up against Andrew Morris, who was making his second start in a bullpen game for Minnesota. Morris lasted just two innings, giving up a run in each while facing six batters per frame.
The game was tied going into the sixth when Carter Jensen's double plated two runs for Kansas City. The Twins fought back, and the game got tight again. A fielding collision between shortstop Ryan Kreidler and second baseman Luke Keaschall on what should have been the third out of an inning let another Royals run score, giving Kansas City the lead right before a rain delay that lasted over an hour.
When play resumed, Victor Caratini hit a solo home run. Then Josh Rojas broke it open in the ninth with a single to center that drove in two more, both charged to Twins reliever Taylor Rogers.
Kansas City is now 25-38 on the season. Minnesota drops to 29-35. The two teams play again Friday night on Apple TV.
