Caleb Durbin hit a two run home run in the fifth inning to break a tie, and the Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees 6-3 on Thursday night at Fenway Park.
Durbin’s homer off Yankees starter Cam Schlittler gave the Red Sox the lead for good. The young infielder has been productive in the Boston lineup this season.
Connelly Early started for the Red Sox and pitched six innings. He allowed two runs and struck out nine batters. The Boston bullpen held the Yankees scoreless over the final three innings, with Aroldis Chapman earning the save.
The Red Sox took the series opener against their rival. The teams play again on Friday night at Fenway.
