The San Diego Padres defeated the Atlanta Braves 5-2 on Wednesday night at Petco Park.
J.P. Sears made his first start for the Padres this season and delivered 5 2/3 innings. He allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out five. The San Diego bullpen followed with 3 1/3 scoreless innings.
The Padres scored in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. They added two more runs in the sixth after the Braves pulled within one. Ty France drove in three runs for San Diego.
Martin Perez started for Atlanta and went four innings. He allowed three earned runs. The Braves got two runs but could not mount a bigger comeback.
The win completed a three game sweep of the Braves at home for the Padres. San Diego improved its record against Atlanta in recent meetings at Petco Park. The teams now turn their attention to upcoming series.
