Dave Roberts became the fastest manager in Major League Baseball history to reach 1,000 career wins. The Los Angeles Dodgers skipper hit the mark in a win over the Athletics.
Roberts has managed the Dodgers since 2016. In that time, he has guided the team to multiple division titles, National League pennants, and three World Series championships. His overall record stands at a strong winning percentage compared to most managers who reached this total.
The previous mark for fewest games to 1,000 wins belonged to Cap Anson in the modern era. Roberts passed that number in around 1,606 games. He joins former Dodgers managers Walter Alston and Tommy Lasorda as the only ones in franchise history with at least 1,000 wins.
After the game, Roberts said the milestone is about the relationships he has built and the people around him rather than just the number. The Dodgers held a clubhouse celebration in his honor.
Roberts continues to lead one of the most successful teams in recent MLB history.
